Microsoft Outlook XP & 2003 Tutorial

Lets configure your Outlook XP or 2003 for email. Please note that some of the screen shots have information for demo purposes, make sure to follow the written instruction to be 100% clear on configuration and success.

Microsoft Outlook 2003 Step by Step Guild

  • Started your Microsoft Outlook 2003 or XP . If this is the first time using Outlook 2007 a Startup Wizard will display. If this is the case then click Next. If you have already gone through a wizard and are just checking the settings to confirm you are correctly setup, Click "Tools" >> "E-mail Accounts", it will ask to Add a new e-mail account, make sure that option is choosen or to correct your existing email choose "view or change existing e-mail accounts" and click next.

  • Choose POP3 and click next. If you are editing your existing the skip to the next step.

  • E-mail Accounts :
  1.  
    1. Your Name - Enter the display name that you want to appear here like your full name, business name or department. When you send an email this name is displayed for the recipient to know whom the email came from
    2. E-mail Address - enter your email address in full and make sure not to use any capital letters.
    3. Incoming Mail Server (POP3), enter in mail.yourdomain.com (replace yourdomain with your actual domain).
    4. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), enter in same as the above mail.yourdomain.com
    5. User Namer: this is your complete email name.
    6. Password - enter your password as created for your account. This is case sensitive so if you used lower case or capital letters make them the same here. You will be asked to do this 2 times.
    7. Remember password: Choose this option.
    8. Click "More Settings" and see below step 4.

  • Internet E-mail Settings:

    1. General: Where is says "Mail Account" in the box below enter in your complete email address.

  • Outgoing Server:
  1.  
    1. Check the box "My outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication
    2. Then choose "Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

  3. Advanced:
    1. Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) to port 26.
    2. Click Okay

  • Final step: Click "Test Account Settings..." As long as you get all green checks you are good to go. If not please repeat from step one. Make sure everything is typed in correctly and remember this is case sensitive. If you are successful click "next" then "finish" and start emailing today.
